Latest technology in labeling for traceability

July 1, 2008 |

Technology is continually changing and as such EE Technologies, Inc. (EET) continues to invest in order to provide the best possible services for its customers. As real estate on printed circuit assemblies becomes more critical for effective product design for many companies (automotive, medical, consumer, and other industries), smaller product marking capabilities that allow product identification and tracking are essential. Our newly purchased, Identco CAB6 enables EET to provide tracking using an ECC 200 2 dimensional label matrix identification system, which replaces traditional single dimensional bar code technology. Recently, EET implemented technologies allowing the use of a 4.5mm X 4.5mm label for an automotive application, and this label provided all of the detail tracking required (a label this size can hold 24 numeric or 16 alpha-numeric characters). EET has the capability to place the labels automatically during the SMT process thereby eliminating human operator defects and increasing production efficiencies. These technologies allow for the demanding component level traceability required by either industry standards or customer preference.

New Flying Probe Test Equipment

June 2, 2008 |

EE Technologies, Inc, (EET) of Reno , NV , recently expanded its ability to provide increased productivity and quality with the addition of a SPEA Model 4040 Series II Flying Probe Tester. As the design of electronics becomes more complicated, with smaller and more advanced componentry, it becomes more critical to thoroughly electrically test each component during its manufacture. Unfortunately electrical test equipment, tooling and fixturing are highly expensive and prohibitive in many cases.

Flying Probe technology is a combination of high speed robotics and electrical test equipment. This type of advanced technology allows the test of electronic assemblies without the added expense of dedicated fixtures which could run in to many thousands of dollars. Process checks result in less troubleshooting and reduced rework costs which benefits EET’s diverse customer base.

In this aggressive industry and economy, cost reductions are essential. EET understands this fundamental concept and will continue to proactively make technology, process and cost improvements.

New Capabilities in Mexico Plant

May 15, 2008 |

EE Technologies, Inc. (EET) continues to invest in its Mexico operation in order to continually improve the service to its domestic and international customers. Many customers have products which are required to operate in harsh environmental conditions. To meet the needs of these customers, EET has enhanced their capabilities by the addition of an automated conformal coating processing line. With the new Asymtek Century C-740 In-Line Conformal Coating System and Select Cure UV-6 Cure module, EET is able to apply an accurate coat of liquid conformal coating material and then cure it to provide a board that is tack free and ready for further processing and assembly. The process is unique in its ability to “selectively” coat an assembly for critical applications such as lighting or product identification, or “spray” coat for 100% coverage.

This process is vital for automotive applications and for products where there are strict environmental concerns. EET has been using this process successfully on products for a large automotive customer and expects other new and existing customers to also benefit from this technology. Additionally, EET Mexico has implemented a Teradyne Z1888 In-circuit test (ICT) for higher volume assemblies. The ICT is intended for critical applications where electrical testing is required and the quick cycle times for test result in good return on investment. The Teradyne tester provides detailed parametric test data, and is used for operational quality as well as product debug applications.

Dinner honors region's businesses

November 09, 2005 | RGJ.com

The man who named Reno the best place in America to do business told attendees of the 21st Annual Governor's Industry Appreciation Awards Tuesday night how the Biggest Little City can hold on to that ranking.

Joel Kotkin, author of Inc. magazine's May article ranking 274 metropolitan areas by their business climates, said Reno's relatively low cost of living and regulation-friendly business environment has caught the attention of companies looking to relocate.

"It's remarkable that Reno has made the transition from a gaming town," Kotkin said. "But as Reno is growing it needs to be very conscious on developing in an intelligent way."

Kotkin is the author of "The City: A Global History" and contributes regularly to major publications such as The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

Gov. Kenny Guinn joined businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations at the Reno Hilton to honor those companies that have made a commitment to do business in Nevada.

Ormat Technologies Inc., a Sparks-based owner and operator of geothermal power plants, was named Distinguished Business of the Year for its expansion in and contributions to Northern Nevada since moving here in 1984.

"This year the governor and legislature saw your private contributions to the economy," said Chuck Alvey, president/CEO of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, to the nearly 1,000 in attendance.

"We are here tonight to recognize your efforts."

To qualify for the award, a company must be in business in Nevada for more than five years.

Almost 30 other Northern Nevada companies were named as honorees at the ceremony for their relocation or expansion in the area during the past year. Businesses can nominate themselves for the award or be nominated by someone in the community.

Former Democratic Governor and U.S. Senator Richard Bryan said the companies exemplify the diverse economy the state has been planning for more than 20 years.

"In 1983, we wanted to reformat our economic development plans so that they involved both the private and public sector," Bryan said. "The public sector offers its resources and combines with the entrepreneurial spirit of the private sector."

EDAWN co-hosted the event with the Northern Nevada Development Authority, in cooperation with the Nevada Commission on Economic Development.

EET Inc. is indicative of Nevada's successful manufacturing industry

April 7, 2003 | Bill O'Driscoll | Reno-Gazette Journal

Sonny Newman operates below radar on a screen full of name companies. That's fine with Newman. His Reno business, Electronic Evolution Technologies Inc., might not make the marquee, but more and more, the marquee names want his business. EET Inc. makes electronic circuit boards for such things as gaming devices, robotics and medical imaging devices. Manufacturing is suffering nationwide, witness a 1.5 percent drop in factory orders in February, the biggest fall in five months, but not, it appears, at EET Inc. Since Newman started EET in 2000, he says sales from mostly small and specialty orders soared from $1.8 million to $19.1 million last year. That's prompted him to swell his staff from 20 to 140 employees during the same period. And increasingly, he says, his business comes, largely word of mouth, from California. "We're attractive to California," he says. "There's a lot of companies there that do what we do, but they're much bigger and less flexible." And it helps, he says, to have customers whose products sell. He contracts for small orders from such Nevada names as International Game Technology of Reno, the world's biggest slot-machine maker, and other gaming manufacturers, including GameTech International and Shuffle Master Inc. So far, most of his clients are small California companies, such as Pasco Scientific and North American Imaging, in need of prototype or specialty orders. "These California companies love the idea they're doing business in Nevada," he says. "It gives them a chance to come to Reno. What works for us is a strong demand for specialty work, quick turnaround time, and flexible manufacturing." Three years ago, using the fruits of years of real estate investing, Newman acquired the assets of Sparks-based Alter Electronics and launched EET. Electronics has been in his blood since his senior year at Carson High School when, in 1980, he went to work for a small computer company that later became Cubix Corp. He worked a variety of positions during 15 years and, in 1995, created Meridian Electronics, a brokerage house for electronics parts. Meridian is still viable, housed in EET's 63,000-square-foot facility in the South Meadows Business Park. But clearly manufacturing holds center stage in the 40-year-old's world. EET is indicative of Nevada's manufacturing industry faring better than the nation as a whole. During 2001, Nevada was one of just three states, alongside Hawaii and North Dakota, to eke out new jobs. "Nationally, we're down 2.5 million jobs, but we're doing better in Nevada than most," says Ray Bacon of the Nevada Manufacturers Association. "Some are seeing business come back." IGT has become the biggest manufacturer in northern Nevada, capitalizing on the proliferation of gaming across the nation and the world. A small supplier like EET Inc. plays a key role because Newman can furnish circuit boards and other assemblies quickly, says Rich Newton, IGT manager of materials and acquisitions. "Sonny does a very good job, and they're logistically close by," he said of EET's facility just blocks away from IGT headquarters. IGT might be a small part of Newman's business so far, but he has visions of even bigger numbers at EET. "This is like my gambling addiction," he says. "This is my risk in life. You can win big but you can also lose big. "I'd be lying if I said I don't want growth. It's not going to be very tough to get to $50 million (in sales). There's that much out there."

Manufacturer's sales up 10-fold over two years

September 16, 2002 | John Seelmeyer | Northern Nevada Business Weekly

Heaven only knows what Electronic Evolution Technologies will do once it gets a sales force. Even without a sales staff, the young Reno contract manufacturer's sales grew from $1.8 million during its first 10 months in business to $8.5 million last year and will approach $20 million this year. As its 140 employees work a three-shift, seven-day-a week schedule at EET's South Meadows quarters, construction crews are adding 26,500 square feet to a building that isn't yet two years old. And EET is just getting around to adding a sales staff. Phew! Sonny Newman, the company's soft-spoken, no-nonsense founder and president, credited much of the company's success to its customers. EET provides custom manufacturing of circuit boards and related assemblies for companies such as International Game Technology, Gametech, North American Imaging, and others throughout Nevada and northern California. Newman says they're drawn to EET by its ability to provide the full package 'quality manufacturing, competitive pricing, on-time delivery, exceptional service.' But not every would-be customer meets Newman's exacting standards. I don't do business with people who aren't in it as a partnership for the long-term,' he said last week. 'Quality isn't free.' That was a tough lesion Newman learned after he bought the company 'it was a small outfit struggling to survive in Sparks' and began weeding out customers whose contracts were unprofitable for EET. Most of those customers left in the first few months after Newman took over in 2000. Even as EET's original staff was replacing much of the customer base, Newman was starting work on the company's shiny new facility on Double R Boulevard. While construction crews were on the job, he bought another lot next door, figuring it would be a good investment even if EET never needed it. It needs it. The expansion, which will bring the company to a total of 63,000 square feet, will allow EET to nearly double its production floor. Newman figures he'll need the space because he expects EET's sales to double by the end of 2003. Those aren't just sales just for the sake of sales, either. Despite heavy investment in highly automated and robotic manufacturing machinery, Newman said EET is profitable. The only debt surrounding the operation is the mortgage on its building. In part, that reflects the 39-year-old Newman's success with an earlier company'
